SMG · 5.8x21mm
X-58 Nyx in MW4 DMZ: stats, unlock and Apex Attachment
A 5.8x21mm SMG with an integrated suppressor, made for stealth play. It is reliable from close to mid range, and its built-in suppression suits players who avoid attention in DMZ.
How it compares to other submachine guns
- Fire rate: 800 RPM, which is #4 of 5 in its class.
- Magazine: 40 rounds, which is tied for #2 of 5. The reserve holds about 3 more magazines.
- Mag dump: about 3s of continuous fire at the listed rate. This is our calculation, and burst or semi-auto weapons take longer in practice.
- Weapon levels: 53 levels to max it out.

Attachment slots
The X-58 Nyx has 9 attachment categories. In MW4 you unlock each attachment once, and it then works on every weapon that accepts it.
- Optic
- Muzzle
- Barrel
- Underbarrel
- Magazine
- Rear Grip
- Stock
- Laser
- Ammunition
We are not publishing our own attachment-by-attachment build until we have tested this weapon in the launch version. Until then, the in-game Gunny optimizer in Create-a-Class and the FOB Gunsmith can suggest close-range, balanced and long-range builds from the attachments you own.
Apex Attachment: X-58 Void
A subsonic modification that makes it even quieter, hides kill skulls and reduces directional hit indicators on the people you shoot.
It blocks the Barrel, Ammunition slot(s). Apex Attachments do not use one of your normal attachment slots, and you unlock this one at weapon level 53.
Getting the X-58 Nyx in DMZ
Activision's launch post lists the X-58 Nyx as unlocking at player level 46 in its unlock table and at level 34 in the weapon's own entry. Check your in-game Progression menu to confirm.
In DMZ the player level only matters for leveling, because weapon levels and attachment unlocks are shared with Multiplayer. To actually carry a X-58 Nyx into Hajin:
- Loot one from enemies, players or military containers. Weapons found in Hajin can have up to 8 attachments.
- Buy it from the Vendor (DMZ level 5) when it is in that day's stock.
- Extract once with the X-58 Nyx Weapon Manual. After that you can buy the base weapon at the Gunsmith (DMZ level 10) as often as you like and add up to 5 attachments with DMZ Cash.
Any X-58 Nyx you extract with can also be upgraded at the Gunsmith as a one-off copy. You can carry two weapons in and out of a deployment, or more with a Weapon Backpack.
